Rancho Cordova City Council Cultivation Ordinance
| By NORML | Published August 17, 2010 |
The city council of Rancho Cordova voted 4-1 to adopt an ordinance strictly regulating medical marijuana cultivation in the city. Outdoor cultivation is limited to 25 square feet, with a full perimeter fence, et al., plus the requirement that cultivators pay applicable taxes. The latter is especially significant, since the council has also proposed a prohibitive $600/square foot MMJ cultivation tax measure for the November ballot. Indoor cultivation is limited to 25 square feet, 1,200 watts of lighting, prohibition of CO2 and gas products, abatement of odor and other neighborhood impacts, mandatory site pre-inspections by the city, and of course the applicable taxes.
Caliornia NORML believes the Rancho Cordova ordinance is an unconstitutional limitation on patients' right to cultivate under Prop 215. Cal NORML is currently supporting a legal challenge by attorneys Edie Lerman and David Nick against another overly restrictive anti-cultivation ordinance in Tehama County.

Monday at 5:30 the Rancho Cordova city council will try and pass an ordinance that limits all outdoor and indoor cultivation to a 25sq ft area (5x5) period. With tight controls on how both are grown. It is on the consent calendar, and if we do not show, it will be an automatic ordinance without opposition.
